"Flash crash" cools risk aversion; dollar loses momentum after hitting four-week high
Lale Akoner, a global market analyst at eToro, noted in a report that the U.S. dollar strengthened last weekend due to safe-haven demand triggered by the call to oust Maduro, but that the gains are likely to fade quickly as the impact of the event is limited. Akoner stated: “The dollar will see a brief surge in safe-haven buying due to initial news from Venezuela, but as volatility subsides, the gains are expected to quickly reverse. Given Venezuela’s minor role in the global economy and the swift execution of the action, there is no reason for the dollar to strengthen sustainably.” "She further noted that the outlook for U.S. interest rates and global growth remain far more significant factors influencing the dollar.
