U.S. President Donald Trump said Monday in an interview with NBC News that the project to overhaul Venezuela’s struggling energy infrastructure is expected to be completed within 18 months. Donald Trump said, “I think we can do it in less time, but it will cost a fortune.“Massive amounts of money must be invested; oil companies will advance the funds, and we will reimburse them later, or through the proceeds.” However, energy experts have indicated that revitalizing Venezuela’s oil industry could take as long as a decade—a process that would take far longer than the president anticipates—and could require as much as $100 billion in funding.
