It is reported that by 2025, Chongqing’s port cargo throughput will exceed 240 million tons, a 50% increase from 10 years ago. To date, the total lengths of Chongqing’s railways, expressways, and 1,000-ton-class waterways have reached 3,130 kilometers, 4,770 kilometers, and 1,225 kilometers, respectively—representing increases of 62%, 89%, and 35% compared to a decade ago. The 4.5-meter-deep navigation channel along the main section of the Yangtze River from Chongqing to Wuhan has been fully opened, allowing 5,000-ton cargo ships to reach downtown Chongqing year-round. Chen Yongzhong, Deputy Director of the Chongqing Municipal Transport Commission, stated that in the next phase, Chongqing will focus on building a systematically integrated inland open hub. Centered on the concept of “a thousand-mile light boat,” the city will provide “door-to-door” multimodal transport services and regularly operate direct river-to-sea, river-rail-sea intermodal transport, and promote the coordinated development of the Yangtze River Golden Waterway with the New Western Land-Sea Corridor and the China-Europe Railway Express, thereby further unlocking the potential of the Yangtze River Golden Waterway.
