Guangzhou: By 2035, the biopharmaceutical and high-end medical device industries are projected to reach a scale of 500 billion yuan
The General Office of the Guangzhou Municipal People’s Government has issued the “Guangzhou Plan for Accelerating the Development of an Advanced Manufacturing Powerhouse (2024–2035).” The plan states that the city will prioritize the development of high-value-added, high-end medical devices, including in vitro diagnostic devices, cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diagnostic and therapeutic devices, imaging diagnostic and therapeutic equipment, orthopedic and corrective devices, novel materials for ophthalmology and orthopedics, and cardiovascular and neurological implants and interventional devices. It will also accelerate the research and development of medical imaging equipment, medical robots, novel implantable devices, home medical monitoring and health equipment, wearable devices, primary-care-appropriate diagnostic and therapeutic equipment, and mobile healthcare. By 2035, the city aims to establish a nationally leading hub for the biopharmaceutical and high-end medical device industries. The industry’s foundational R&D capabilities will be further strengthened, the industrial chain will become more robust, and the industry’s scale will reach 500 billion yuan.
