Svmuu News: A research report released by Chainalysis shows that in 2025, the firm tracked a significant increase in state-sponsored activity in the cryptocurrency sector. Criminal organizations now operate large-scale on-chain infrastructure to help transnational criminal networks acquire goods and services and launder their illicit cryptocurrency proceeds. Data indicates that illicit cryptocurrency transactions reached at least $154 billion in 2025. This represents a 162% increase from the previous year, primarily driven by a 694% surge in funds received by sanctioned entities. However, even if the amount received by sanctioned entities had remained flat compared to the previous year, 2025 would still have been a record-breaking year for cryptocurrency crime, as activity increased across most categories of illicit activity. Furthermore, stablecoins dominate the illicit transaction landscape, currently accounting for 84% of all illicit transaction volume.
