Svmuu News: Starting January 1, interest will begin to accrue on balances in Digital Yuan wallets. It is reported that its smart contracts differ from the "on-chain" smart contracts built on blockchain technology, which are famous for Ethereum.Senior digital yuan experts point out that the digital yuan is not built on a blockchain but is based on a newly designed account system. The central bank and commercial banks jointly maintain “a single ledger.” By integrating “smart contracts that do not affect the currency’s functions,” the digital yuan achieves programmability and supports features such as targeted payments and automated execution.Additionally, Caixin revealed that currently only real-name verified digital yuan wallets are eligible for interest accrual—specifically, Type I, II, and III wallets—while Category 4 non-real-name wallets do not (as the owner of a Category 4 wallet cannot be verified). After January 1, mobile banking apps of participating banks, as well as payment platforms such as WeChat Pay and Alipay, will gradually gain the authority to open digital RMB wallets. (Caixin)
