Analyst: Japan's classification of Bitcoin as a financial product could be detrimental to Metaplanet
Svmuu News: In response to Japan’s decision this year to classify Bitcoin as a financial product, crypto analyst Willy Woo posted a comment on X stating, this policy is beneficial for ordinary people, as it will incentivize more Japanese citizens to purchase Bitcoin. Once Bitcoin is classified as a financial product, the tax rate on Japanese Bitcoin gains or trading profits will be set at 20%, rather than the marginal income tax rate (which can reach 43–55% for annual incomes exceeding $57,000).However, this policy may be disadvantageous for treasury companies like Metaplanet (Bitcoin), as their self-custodial services (Bitcoin) would lose their tax arbitrage advantage.
