Svmuu News The U.S. Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) has stated that it will consider opinions from sports leagues when assessing the risks of prediction market contracts. This follows calls from the National Football League (NFL) for platforms to tighten related trading rules.
According to reports, the NFL has sent letters to Kalshi and Polymarket, requesting them to avoid listing contracts that are easily manipulated or whose outcomes can be predetermined. Examples include single-game events (such as whether the first pass is incomplete, whether a field goal is made), draft results, lineup decisions, and broadcast-related content.
The league specifically pointed out that markets related to foul calls and player injuries could create incentives for manipulation, thereby affecting the fairness of the games.
CFTC Chairman Michael Selig stated that the regulatory agency will "heavily reference league opinions" when evaluating such contracts, believing that sports leagues possess professional expertise in identifying potential manipulation risks.
Currently, the NFL has not publicly released the full content of the letters. It remains unclear whether Kalshi and Polymarket will adjust their related products.
