British Media: UK Seeks to Attract Anthropic to Expand Business in the UK
Svmuu News According to the Financial Times, the UK is attempting to persuade Anthropic to expand its business in the country. Citing informed sources, the report states that the UK government's proposals to Anthropic range from expanding offices in London to a dual listing. Anthropic and the UK Department for Science, Innovation and Technology did not immediately respond to Reuters' request for comment. The office of UK Prime Minister Starmer has consistently supported the work of the Department for Science, Innovation and Technology. During Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei's visit to the UK at the end of May, the UK will present this proposal to Amodei. The US government previously placed Anthropic on a blacklist, determining that the company poses a national security supply chain risk because Anthropic refused to allow the military to use its AI chatbot Claude for US surveillance or autonomous weapons systems. A US judge has temporarily blocked the implementation of this blacklist. The AI startup has also filed a second lawsuit regarding this supply chain risk determination, and the case is still ongoing.
