According to reports, Microsoft is considering releasing some of its in-house AI models with “open weights.” This move could signal a major shift in Microsoft’s AI strategy, aimed at reducing its reliance on OpenAI and addressing the growing popularity of Chinese AI models among U.S. users.
MicrosoftAI CEO Mustafa Suleiman stated that the company is pushing for a more autonomous AI strategy, emphasizing that “first-party models (in-house models) will create autonomous capabilities for us in the long term.“We cannot rely on third-party vendors.” Previously, Microsoft had expressed support for open-weight AI in an open letter.
