Shares of Sprouts Farmers Market (NASDAQ: SFM) climbed more than 16% this past week after the natural and organic grocery chain delivered better-than-expected financial results for its fiscal second quarter, which ended on June 28. The company reported earnings per share of $1.37, a 1% increase year-over-year, surpassing Wall Street's estimates of $1.34. Net sales grew 5% to $2.3 billion.
For the full year, Sprouts expects net sales growth of 5.5% to 6.5% and earnings per share between $5.32 and $5.40, driven by 42 net new store openings. Management also anticipates comparable sales to turn positive in the third quarter.
