SK Hynix and SanDisk jointly release the world's first High Bandwidth Flash (HBF) standard specification, with Google joining the ecosystem
SK hynix and SanDisk jointly announced the world's first standard specification for High Bandwidth Flash (HBF) at the "FMS 2026" storage summit held in Santa Clara, California. This specification comes approximately six months after the official establishment of the HBF Alliance, marking an acceleration in the standardization process for next-generation AI storage technology. Google and Tenstorrent have announced their participation in the HBF Alliance, expanding the industry ecosystem coverage for this technology. HBF technology is positioned as a new storage tier between High Bandwidth Memory (HBM) and Solid State Drives (SSD), aiming to address bandwidth bottlenecks and capacity expansion challenges in AI inference scenarios. The specification covers core technical dimensions such as capacity (up to 512GB) and bandwidth (scalable performance from approximately 0.4TB/s to 3.0TB/s), and adopts UCIe (Universal Chiplet Interconnect Express) as the interconnect standard.
