SpaceX is about to experience the largest post-IPO lockup expiration in U.S. stock market history, with approximately 911.5 million insider shares, valued at around $116 billion, set to be released from restrictions on August 6, Eastern Time.
The scale of this unlocking is unprecedented in the history of U.S. stocks. Market concerns about potential selling pressure have already been reflected in the stock price; since its high on June 16, SpaceX's stock price has cumulatively fallen by about 40%, wiping out over $425 billion in market value. According to S3 Partners data, approximately 30% of the circulating shares are currently shorted, with short sellers having a paper profit of about $7 billion. Furthermore, by early December this year, the total circulating shares of SpaceX will surge from the current approximately 639 million shares to 5.33 billion shares, an increase of over seven times compared to the current stage.
