Bitcoin miner Riot Platforms signs $9.1 billion 20-year AI data center deal with Anthropic
The agreement will see Riot provide 191 megawatts (MW) of data center capacity at its Rockdale, Texas site to Anthropic, the AI company behind Claude. This deal, which could extend to $16.1 billion with two five-year options, marks a significant shift for Riot, leveraging its infrastructure built for Bitcoin mining to serve the electricity-hungry AI sector. Riot's shares rose following the announcement, as the estimated revenue from the deal exceeds the company's 2025 total revenue of $647.4 million and its pre-deal market worth of approximately $7.3 billion. Riot previously secured a 50 MW data center contract with Advanced Micro Devices (AMD) at the same facility.
