The US Department of Justice (DoJ) stated that 17 Iranians were charged for allegedly conducting a years-long "coordinated campaign" of cyber attacks. The DoJ claims the Iran-based Mabna Institute targeted 144 American universities and 42 private sector firms since at least 2013, stealing over 31 terabytes of academic data and intellectual property worth approximately $3.4 billion. Many of the alleged attacks were carried out for Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) and other Iranian government clients. The DoJ is offering a $10 million reward for information leading to the location of five of the alleged hackers.
