Samsung Electronics' labor union plans to hold a rally in Seoul on Friday afternoon to protest the widening pay gap with its semiconductor division.
The union primarily represents employees in Samsung's consumer device business, with its members concentrated in the Device eXperience (DX) division. The rally takes place against a backdrop where an AI-driven memory chip boom has brought record profits to the semiconductor division, but at the same time has increased costs for consumer devices such as smartphones, TVs, and home appliances, leading to a widening pay gap between divisions.
