According to CNBC reporter Kristina Partsinevelos, Broadcom is raising this debt by setting up a special purpose vehicle (SPV) that will purchase AI chips and lease them to clients like Anthropic, thereby avoiding direct inclusion of the debt on Broadcom's balance sheet. However, Broadcom will guarantee a portion of the debt, and Bank of America estimates that Broadcom's guaranteed exposure could reach $370 billion by 2029. NVIDIA is also employing a similar strategy on a larger scale, with its related exposure potentially exceeding $500 billion. Analysis suggests that if there is a shock to AI demand, these guarantees could be triggered simultaneously, posing challenges for risk management.
