Ceasefire monitoring mission arrives in Democratic Republic of Congo
A monitoring mission has been deployed to eastern Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) to verify the formal ceasefire between the DRC's army and M23 rebels, despite persistent fighting in the mineral-rich region. The United Nations and government sources stated on Monday that the monitoring team had arrived to track the progress of the Qatari-mediated truce. The Swiss government announced on Sunday that the DRC and M23 had agreed on a roadmap for peace talks, and the mission will verify violations of the ceasefire agreement signed in July 2025. The mission comprises members from the Congolese government, M23, and observers from the International Conference on the Great Lakes Region (ICGLR).
