CATL's subsidiary, Contemporary Amperex Energy Service Technology Ltd. (CAES), and Kunming Development New Energy, a subsidiary of Kunming State-owned Assets Supervision and Administration Commission, signed a cooperation agreement on August 26 to jointly build 100 "chocolate" battery swap stations in Kunming. According to the agreement, Kunming Development New Energy will be responsible for asset investment and provide sites, vehicle replacement resources, and local coordination. CAES will provide battery swap standards, an operating system, and a digital platform. The two parties also plan to unify battery configurations, pricing, and services. CATL has significantly accelerated the deployment of its battery swap network this year. As of the end of June, its battery swap stations had increased to 2,000, covering 180 cities. It is reported that following Kunming, CAES will successively announce several "hundred-station" projects in single cities.
