Meta will pay up to $16.7 billion to resolve a lawsuit alleging failures in child protection and social media addiction, which was getting under way in California. The settlement with 29 states also includes agreements for Meta to implement time limits and parental controls on its platforms, leading to a pre-market stock price increase of 4.4%.
