UNRWA chief condemns Israeli seizure of East Jerusalem facility, calls it part of campaign to weaken agency and eliminate Palestinian rights
Acting Commissioner-General Christian Saunders told Al Jazeera on Wednesday that Israeli forces raided and seized the Qalandiya Training Centre in the Kafr Aqab neighbourhood on Tuesday, expelling UNRWA employees. Israeli National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir participated in the raid, and Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu stated the evacuation was lawful. Saunders said the takeover deprives hundreds of young Palestinians of education and violates international law protecting UN premises.
