Gulf Tanker Rates Near $650,000/Day as Iran War Disrupts Crude Shipments
Daily earnings for vessels shipping crude oil from Saudi Arabia to China reached a record $647,000 on Thursday, more than ten times the level of a year ago, according to data from the Baltic Exchange. Exports from the Persian Gulf are rising, increasing demand for oil tankers within the Strait of Hormuz. Few shipowners are willing to risk this dangerous voyage, leading them to demand huge premiums.
