Honda and Nissan reportedly nearing agreement to jointly develop vehicle software and onboard computers, targeting new models by 2029
According to Japan's Nikkei newspaper, as reported by Reuters on August 29, the two Japanese automakers could reach an agreement as soon as August 31 (Monday). The collaboration would focus on a vehicle operating system and onboard computer for new models arriving as early as 2029. Honda confirmed it is discussing "potential areas of collaboration" with Nissan, but stressed no deal has been finalized, a sentiment echoed by a Nissan spokesperson. This move comes over a year after their $60 billion merger talks collapsed.
