Former U.S. President Donald Trump expressed strong support for data center construction in a post on Truth Social on Monday. He stated that the only reason communities across the U.S. oppose data centers is "because they want to be backward and poor," adding that if people want success, wealth, lower taxes, and jobs everywhere, they should "let data reign." Previously, a data center construction boom in Texas had sparked growing public opposition. A University of Pennsylvania survey showed that in July 2025, 61% of U.S. adults opposed data center construction in their local area, a 12 percentage point increase from February-March of this year. Texas Governor Greg Abbott was consequently forced to shift from a supporter to a critic.
