Dallas Fed Report: Texas AI-exposed job postings have been on a continuous decline since ChatGPT's release in 2022, with an unusually high unemployment rate for recent graduates.
The Federal Reserve Bank of Dallas released a research report on September 1, stating that since the advent of ChatGPT in 2022, the number of job postings for AI-exposed positions in Texas has continuously declined. In the first quarter of 2025, these positions saw an approximately 8% greater decline compared to low-exposure positions. The report emphasized that recent college graduates have been hit hardest, with their unemployment rate rising to "unusually high levels" during the rapid proliferation of generative AI. Researchers Samuel Dodini and Tucker Smith believe this indicates that recent graduates are the first group to experience the impact of generative AI on employment and income. Texas has the largest data center construction capacity in the United States, but large-scale infrastructure investment has not led to growth in white-collar jobs. Instead, AI tools are replacing traditional employment areas for college graduates, such as software development, web design, management, and clerical work.
