Apple (AAPL) Unveils New Mac Mini and Mac Studio with M6 (First 2nm Chip, 4x Faster AI) and M5 Chips, Boosting On-Device AI Capabilities; Mac Mini Starts at $899
Apple's new M6 chip, built on a 2-nanometer process, delivers 4 times faster AI performance and 2 times faster graphics than the M4 model. The M5 Pro chip can process large language model prompts up to 8.5 times faster than its M2 Pro predecessor. The Mac Studio now starts at $2,499 with the M5 Max chip or $5,499 with the new M5 Ultra. Preorders opened Tuesday, with units shipping September 22. The company noted that developers can run and fine-tune large AI models locally on their Mac with these new chips and frameworks. The Mac Mini's entry price has risen to $899 from $599 at its 2024 launch, reflecting pricing power despite rising component costs.
