Apple announced that AI and 3D printing technologies were used in the manufacturing of the hinges for its highly anticipated foldable phone, the Duo.
Apple's Chief Hardware Officer Johny Srouji revealed at Wednesday's "Surprise and Shine" event that the company utilizes AI algorithms during manufacturing to precisely match each hinge with its most compatible casing. This process involves confocal laser scanning the topology of each unit and 3D printing up to 25 layers of custom photopolymer microlayers to eliminate residual ripples.
