Analyst John Murphy: Chinese Autos Unlikely in U.S. by 2030, Hybrids to Hit 34% Market Share
Automotive analyst John Murphy, in his latest outlook for the U.S. auto market, predicts that Chinese automakers are unlikely to enter the U.S. market by 2030 due to U.S. lawmakers' reluctance and existing 100% tariffs. He also expects demand for gas-electric hybrids to surge, reaching 34% of the market by 2030. Furthermore, Murphy forecasts that 5 to 10 of the current 38 auto brands in the U.S. could disappear over the next decade, with Polestar, Maserati, Alfa Romeo, Jaguar, and Fiat identified as most at risk. The pure electric vehicle segment is seen growing only slightly through 2030, as the industry adjusts to scrapped EV models and reduced rollouts between 2026 and 2028 following the end of federal tax breaks.
