OpenAI CFO Sarah Friar stated that the company is adopting a supply chain diversification strategy to mitigate risks. She noted that OpenAI holds $122 billion in cash and has no IPO deadline, which reduces NVIDIA's urgency and OpenAI's dependence on NVIDIA for chip pricing. Friar also differentiated between the demand for training and inference chips, saying that NVIDIA remains a strong platform for training accelerators, but OpenAI is customizing chips for inference workloads. Following this news, Broadcom fell 7.95%, AMD was flat, and NVIDIA dropped 5.9%. Despite this, OpenAI remains committed to procuring approximately 12 gigawatts of NVIDIA hashrate by 2030.
