Polygon is preparing a permissionless burn protocol that will allow anyone to permanently burn 100 million POL tokens, which accounts for approximately 83% of the 121 million tokens in its base fee collector. Sandeep Nailwal, CEO of the Polygon Foundation, stated that the relevant contract has been deployed on the testnet and will be moved to the mainnet after final approval from the security council. In the future, quarterly base fee burns will be initiated by the community itself.
