Non-profit organization Data & Society today released a report delving into the various reasons Pennsylvania residents oppose the construction of AI data centers. The report indicates that residents are primarily concerned about the impact of data centers on electricity bills and property values, as well as a lack of trust in the industry. Previously, Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro supported a $90 billion investment in data centers and AI infrastructure in July 2025, but a year later signed an executive order imposing new requirements on data center projects and eliminating regulatory fast tracks. According to Data Center Watch, $68 billion worth of data center projects were stalled in Q2 2026 due to local opposition.
