The United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD) released its latest report, stating that the recovery and reconstruction needs in the Gaza Strip have reached $71.5 billion and are likely to continue increasing. The report notes that Gaza's economy has experienced "the most severe crisis on record," with unemployment soaring to over 90% and per capita GDP falling by 83% since 2022 to $212 per year. The report emphasizes that the consequences of 59 years of Israeli occupation and the "genocidal war" since October 2023 have resulted in 92% of economic facilities being damaged or destroyed, and cumulative labor income losses of $2.8 billion. The report calls for large-scale international financial and technical assistance, prioritizing issues such as the transfer of withheld Palestinian revenues and stabilizing the financial system.
