The Shanghai Gold Exchange is pushing several Chinese banks to halt retail precious metals leveraged trading, a service that allows investors to speculate on gold and silver contracts through margin deposits without holding the physical metal. At least a dozen Chinese banks are currently planning to phase out such operations. Sources indicate that this move is a mandatory requirement from the Shanghai Gold Exchange. Everbright Bank announced on Friday that it would gradually discontinue related services after October 19, following a similar notice issued by SPD Bank earlier this month.
