Iraq's national news agency reported that Iraqi Airways resumed commercial flights between Najaf province and Iranian airports on Monday. Previously, flights from Najaf and three other Iraqi airports had been suspended due to concerns about secondary US sanctions targeting aviation services linked to Tehran. This move allows Iraq's national airline to bypass international contractors who had stopped servicing Iranian flights due to fears of secondary sanctions.

Iran's official news agency, IRNA, reported that Iran had earlier filed a formal complaint with the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) regarding US aviation sanctions, stating that ICAO had ruled in Iran's favor. Abuzar Shiroudi, head of Iran's Civil Aviation Organization, said that the Iranian Foreign Ministry is coordinating efforts to legally resume flights. Shiroudi also revealed that Tehran has filed a lawsuit with the International Court of Justice in The Hague concerning attacks on airports, aircraft, and radar systems, and the case is still pending. US sanctions against Iranian airlines took effect on September 23.
