Myanmar's military carried out an air strike on Monday near a market in the rebel-controlled territory of northern Rakhine state, killing at least 33 people and wounding 36, according to rescue and rebel group officials. The Arakan Army stated that a fighter jet dropped two bombs near a local market in Kyauktaw town at noon local time. This is the latest in a series of assaults by the military government, which took power in a 2021 coup, against pro-democracy and ethnic armed groups. Nearly half a million people are displaced in Rakhine as a result of the conflict.
