Shopify announced it has extended WebMCP (Web Model Context Protocol) support to the checkout process, allowing browser-based AI agents, with buyer authorization, to update order details and complete purchases. Previously, Shopify supported AI agents in browsing products and adding items to the cart. This update introduces three new tools: get_checkout, update_checkout, and complete_checkout, enabling AI agents to inspect, modify checkout information, and submit orders. This feature is being rolled out to all eligible Shopify merchants, including Shop Pay.
