Five crew members were killed by pirates on the oil tanker MT Hoarner 25, which was hijacked off the coast of Somalia, before local security forces retook the vessel, BBC reported, citing Bile Qabowsade, Deputy Minister of Information for Somalia's Puntland region. The victims included three Pakistanis, one Indian, and one Myanmar national, with four other crew members injured. The tanker was hijacked in April this year while carrying approximately 18,500 barrels of crude oil, destined for Mogadishu, the capital of Somalia. Sixteen pirate suspects have been arrested. Pirate activity off the coast of Somalia had significantly decreased after international naval operations began in 2011, but attacks and hijackings have increased again in recent years.
