AMD CEO Lisa Su visited South Korea on October 7, meeting intensively with senior executives from Samsung Electronics and SK Hynix, and stated that supply chain planning requires 3 to 5 years or even longer periods of cooperation. AMD publicly confirmed for the first time that SK Hynix will supply HBM4 for its AI accelerators and server platforms, a move that contradicts previous market assumptions that Samsung was the sole source of HBM4 for AMD. Su emphasized that HBM cooperation will continue across multiple generations and noted that memory supply is currently very tight. Samsung hopes to extend its memory supply relationship to its foundry business, but AMD is cautious about foundry cooperation, with TSMC currently producing its high-end chips. Additionally, AMD plans to establish an "AI Center of Excellence" in South Korea and promote the development of a local software ecosystem.
