The Bureau of Ocean Energy Management reported that 71.5% of the average daily oil production and 58.8% of natural gas production in the U.S. Gulf of Mexico were shut down due to severe weather. Personnel have been evacuated from 129 offshore production platforms, which account for nearly 35% of manned facilities. This large-scale shutdown highlights a significant disruption to U.S. energy supply.
