Ledger confirmed on October 10 that an unauthorized hardware implant was found in an affected customer's wallet, while independent investigators estimated the suspicious cryptocurrency theft caused losses of up to $93.2 million. Hardware wallet manufacturer Ledger stated that this finding involved the device of an affected user. Authorized reseller CryptoBilis, which operates in Southeast Asia, has suspended sales of all hardware wallet inventory pending the investigation results. The investigation began after customers reported cryptocurrency losses following the purchase of Ledger devices from the reseller. Ledger has not stated how many devices were modified, nor has it confirmed that all reported losses were caused by this implant. Ledger stated that there is no indication its security infrastructure, systems, or services have been compromised. Independent investigators Galaxy Digital and Bitquery estimated losses at approximately $91 million and $93.2 million, respectively, with Bitquery also finding that the attackers controlled multiple wallets before coordinating withdrawal operations on October 9.
