The International Monetary Fund (IMF) has warned that rising sovereign debt and borrowing costs are putting pressure on global public finances. The average yield on 10-year government bonds for G7 countries rose by over 1 percentage point between February and September this year, reaching its highest level in nearly two decades. The IMF stated that higher bond yields increase debt servicing costs and exacerbate fiscal pressures in both advanced and emerging economies.
