Saudi Energy Minister Prince Abdulaziz bin Salman announced at the WPC Energy Congress that Saudi Arabia plans to significantly increase the oil transmission capacity of its East-West Pipeline from the current 7 million barrels per day to 10 million barrels per day within two to three years, a 43% increase. This move aims to strategically restructure oil export infrastructure to counter the risk of a potential closure of the Strait of Hormuz. Saudi Aramco CEO Amin Nasser stated that the company is exploring additional crude oil export routes and expanding its overseas storage capacity. The pipeline was shut down on September 11 after being attacked by drones from Iraqi militia; as of October 6, its flow had recovered to 5.8 million barrels per day.
