Chainalysis: AI agents made over 138 million crypto payments, with U.S.-linked wallets dominating 88% of spending on AI models, according to new research from the blockchain analytics firm. Chinese-linked wallets accounted for only 0.1% of these payments. The report, released Wednesday, highlights the growing use of crypto by AI agents for services, data, and token access, primarily through the x402 protocol on Coinbase's Base blockchain. Chainalysis' head of research Eric Jardine suggests Chinese developers may prefer open-weight models, reducing their need for metered inference services.
