Ricursive Intelligence, a startup founded by Anna Goldie and Azalia Mirhoseini, is developing AI that can design chips, learn from each iteration, and improve subsequent designs. The founders stated at TechCrunch Disrupt on Wednesday that this approach aims to automate and accelerate the chip design process, addressing an anticipated 10,000-fold increase in compute demand over the next five years. They noted that AI can discover unconventional layouts, such as a “donut-shaped” arrangement, and potentially reduce chip design time to as little as a week.
