The IEA confirmed it has released 330 million barrels of oil reserves and agreed to accelerate the release of the remaining 100 million barrels to address supply disruptions caused by the Iran war.
The International Energy Agency (IEA) has confirmed the release of approximately 330 million barrels of emergency oil reserves. This is part of an agreement reached in March, when member countries agreed to release 400 million barrels of oil to address supply disruptions caused by the war in Ukraine. The IEA Governing Board stated that it has agreed to accelerate the release of the remaining 100 million barrels of reserves, including over 20 million barrels of diesel, and has developed a plan to expedite the release. The Board noted that the total volume of reserves released has exceeded the initially committed 400 million barrels, as some member countries released more than originally pledged. Earlier this month, IEA Executive Director Fatih Birol stated that approximately 325 million barrels had already been released under the agreement.
