Myanmar coup leader Min Aung Hlaing was given a red-carpet welcome during his visit to Malaysia last week, with Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim pledging to help Myanmar rejoin ASEAN and stating that Myanmar is willing to cover the costs of refugee repatriation, Al Jazeera reported. Since becoming president in April, Min Aung Hlaing has visited ASEAN countries such as Thailand, Vietnam, Cambodia, and Laos, as well as India, China, Russia, and Belarus. Additionally, Reuters reported last week that the United States has also begun direct dialogue with Min Aung Hlaing's government, despite existing U.S. human rights sanctions against it.
