NVIDIA researchers announced on Monday, October 19, ET, that they have successfully completed a record-breaking 104-qubit fault-tolerant quantum computing simulation using the JUPITER supercomputer at the Jülich Supercomputing Centre in Germany. This simulation, which utilized 8,192 GPUs, not only elevated the scale of simulation to a new high but also validated a technique called "magic state distillation," which could reduce the number of physical qubits required for such schemes by approximately 90%. This breakthrough aims to help researchers evaluate and optimize quantum processor designs before hardware manufacturing and reduce the resource overhead of quantum error correction, thereby accelerating the research and development of practical quantum computing systems.
