Russian Foreign Minister Lavrov on Monday pledged support for Iran in Tehran, with analysts suggesting that the US-Iran conflict has driven up oil prices, bringing Russia an estimated $9 billion in additional oil tax revenue.
Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov pledged Moscow's support for Iran during his meeting with Iranian President Pezeshkian and Foreign Minister Aragchi in Tehran on Monday. Aragchi posted on X on Tuesday that cooperation between Iran and Russia has reached an all-time high. Analysts point out that the war launched by the US and Israel against Iran on February 28 has driven up oil prices, bringing a windfall to Russia, with its largest oil tax revenue doubling to approximately $9 billion by April. Washington has eased sanctions on Russian energy to lower fuel costs, and President Donald Trump also suspended newly passed sanctions on Russia and its oil and gas buyers last Friday. Furthermore, Putin and Pezeshkian signed a 20-year comprehensive strategic partnership treaty in January 2025.
