French President Emmanuel Macron has secured new diesel supply commitments from the Middle East. According to the French presidential palace, Macron has obtained commitments from the UAE and Bahrain for an additional 200,000 tons of diesel per month. Including supplies from Saudi Arabia, France now has commitments for 295,000 tons of diesel per month, representing just over 10% of its consumption. These agreements, announced on Tuesday, aim to address high energy prices caused by the US-Iran war and protests triggered by soaring domestic fuel prices in France. Kuwait has also pledged to supply diesel and kerosene to French overseas territories, which will be transported via Oman to bypass the Strait of Hormuz.
