Anthropic pitches AI safety bill that would require judge's permission to block models
Anthropic has proposed a draft AI safety bill to Congress, which would allow the blocking of AI models if they pose a "foreseeable, imminent risk" of causing over 50 deaths or more than $1 billion in property damage. However, the proposed legislation would require the Commerce Department to seek a D.C. judge's permission to halt a model's release, explicitly forbidding any federal agency from unilaterally blocking distribution. The AI lab has been advocating for this framework with lawmakers since June, according to Politico.
